Products Description of Dimethyl Disulfide CAS#624-92-0

Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) is an industrial chemical product with a minimum purity of 99%. This flammable yellow liquid carries a distinctive sulfurous smell.

Its core physical parameters are as follows: melting point −85°C, boiling point 109°C, vapor pressure 3.0×10⁶ mPa at 20°C, relative density 1.0625 (20°C), and freezing point 16°C. It exhibits poor water solubility of only 2.7 g/L under 20°C, yet is fully miscible with the majority of organic solvents within the temperature range of 15–25°C.

Dimethyl disulfide maintains thermal stability at temperatures below 300°C, whereas it tends to decompose when exposed to oxidants. Such properties render it applicable to a wide array of industrial scenarios.

Product Applications of Dimethyl Disulfide CAS#624-92-0

Dimethyl Disulfide (DMDS) is a versatile sulfur-containing fine chemical widely applied across multiple industries.

In petrochemical refining, it serves as the pre-sulfiding agent for hydrodesulfurization and hydrocracking catalysts, and acts as an anti-coking additive for steam cracking furnaces to extend equipment runtime. In agriculture, it functions as an effective soil fumigant to control nematodes, soil fungi and weed seeds before planting. It also works as a key intermediate for synthesizing organophosphorus pesticides. Besides, it can be used as food flavoring raw material for garlic and onion aroma, as well as odorant for combustible gas leakage warning.
